Prepare the area:
Before you start laying tiles, it’s essential to prepare the floor. Remove any existing flooring, including carpets, old tiles, or vinyl, and ensure the surface is clean, dry, and level. If the subfloor is damaged or uneven, use a leveling compound to create a smooth surface. If you’re tiling over concrete, ensure there are no cracks or holes. Sweep and vacuum the area to remove dust and debris.
Gather tools:
To successfully install your floor tiles, you’ll need the following tools and materials:
- Tile adhesive or mortar
- Tile spacers
- Floor tiles
- Trowel
- Tile cutter or wet saw

Plan the layout:
