DSS Arrests EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

DSS Arrests EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

After allegations that he owns four properties and that he moves funds overseas by a third party, the Department of the State Service, DSS, Monday, detained the acting Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

In a seven paragraphs announcement revealed by DSS, acquired by 411info, said that the anti-graft bureau chairman was stated to have been found guilty of prejudicial to state security — withholding of EFCC documents, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC documents and acts unbecoming of a police officer.
Read the full statement below:

“In December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.

“Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m per annum. This accommodation was not paid [for] from the commission’s finances, but by one Umar Mohammed, air commodore retired, a questionable businessman who has subsequently been arrested by the secret service.

“For the furnishing of the residence, Magu enlisted the Federal Capital Development Authority to award a contract to Africa Energy, a company owned by the same Mohammed, to furnish the residence at the cost of N43m.

“Investigations show that the acting EFCC chairman regularly embarked on official and private trips through a private jet owned by Mohammed.

“In one of such trips, Magu flew to Maiduguri alongside Mohammed with a bank MD who was being investigated by the EFCC over complicity in funds allegedly stolen by the immediate past petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

“Furthermore, the EFCC boss has so far maintained a high-profile lifestyle. This is exemplified by his preference for first-class air travels. On 24 June, 2016, he flew Emirate airlines first-class to Saudi Arabia to perform lesser hajj at the cost of N2.9m. This is in spite of Mr President’s directive to all public servants to fly economy class.

“Magu has fostered a beneficial relationship with Mohammed who by his confession approaches clients for possible exploitation, favours and associated returns”.

Fidau: Why Oyo Deputy Governor Was Denied Entry – Ajimobi’s Family

Drama ensured on Sunday morning after Oyo state deputy governor Rauf Olaniyan was denied access to the venue of the eighth day fidau prayers of the former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, at Oluyole, Ibadan.

Olaniyan arrived at the venue of the private programme at about 11:20 am in a convoy of five vehicles, but the convoy was stopped by policemen and members of other security agencies manning the gate. They insisted that only the deputy governor’s vehicle could be allowed into the street to join the prayer.

The securities eventually agreed that only the deputy governor’s vehicle should go into the event that family urged the public to watch through virtual channels including Zoom, YouTube, and Facebook.

In response to this, the deceased family said Sunday that it had no intention to bar the Deputy Governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan, from the eight-day Fidau prayer organized for the deceased.

Ajimobi’s former media aide, Bolaji Tunji, said this in a statement issued in Ibadan on behalf of the family.

The family’s reaction followed reports that a delegation of the state government led by the deputy governor was barred from entering the venue of the event.

But Tunji, in the statement, said the family was not aware that the deputy governor would attend the event.

He added that neither the advance team nor the protocol unit informed the family.

The event, he added, was held in compliance with COVID-19 protocols established by NCDC, noting that not more than 30 people were allowed at the venue.

Tunji added that the seats were arranged according to the number after which the gate to the premises was shut.

He said when the family got the information that the deputy governor had arrived, aides rushed to the gate to usher him into the sitting room only to learn he had gone.

The statement said in part: ” There is the need to clarify the believed presence of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, at the 8th-day prayer of HE Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the immediate past governor of Oyo State

“The Deputy Governor arrived after the prayer had started. The event was strictly a family affair.

“There was a need to comply with the Covid-19 protocol as established by NCDC- Social distancing, not more than 30 people in a place and seats arranged, accordingly after which the gate was shut.

“No one was aware that the Deputy Governor was coming as neither the advance team nor the protocol informed us.

“By the time we got to the gate to usher him into the sitting room, he had left. Everything happened within a spate of 10 minutes.”

Tunji said efforts were made through a serving senator and a former attorney general to get in touch with the deputy governor.

He maintained that the incident was not meant as a slight to the deputy governor as he could sit in a private sitting room provided by the family.

Tunji, who described the incident as unfortunate, however, apologized to the deputy governor.

89 Years-Old Bernie Ecclestone Welcomes Newborn With Wife

89 years old billionaire, former Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, and wife Fabiana Flosi, 44, on Friday told of their joy as they proudly showed off their newborn for the first time.

‘It’s only his second day in the world so he’s not doing very much at the moment but he’s in great form,’ Mr. Ecclestone said.

Miss Flosi gave birth to Alexander Charles Ecclestone on Wednesday near Bern, Switzerland, where they are spending lockdown at their home.

She said on Friday: ‘I’m very happy, it could not have gone better. We are thrilled as a family.’

Mr. Ecclestone is already used to having a baby around as he has three daughters from his previous marriages and five grandchildren.

His eldest, Deborah, 65, was born to first wife Ivy Bamford. He has two other daughters, socialites Tamara, 35, and Petra, 31, with his second wife Slavica Radic.

This time around, though, Mr. Ecclestone, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in October, hopes it may be an easier experience.

He said: ‘It’s all very good, I am very happy. It’s different now, I’m more relaxed and my work is not so pressured so I can spend more time with him.’

He added: ‘I just hope I live long enough to see as much of our baby as I can.’

Asked if he would be changing nappies, Mr. Ecclestone said: ‘I doubt it. I will do what is asked.’

He married marketing director Miss Flosi in 2012, three years after he divorced the Croatian model, Miss Radic.

She told earlier this week how the birth had been easy, saying: ‘The birth was over after 25 minutes. Thank God!’

When Mr. Ecclestone confirmed earlier this year that he was to become a father again at 89, he said. ‘I don’t see there is any difference between being 89 and 29. You have got the same problems, I suppose.’

Petra Ecclestone had her first child with fiancé Sam Palmer, 37 in March.

She already has Lavinia, seven, and five-year-old twins James and Andrew with ex-husband James Stunt.

Her sister Tamara has daughter Sophia, six, with art mogul Jay Rutland.

Kanye West Joins 2020 US Presidential Race

Popular US  billionaire rapper Kanye West has declared his ambition  to run for president in 2020.

His will to run will be an apparent challenge to President Donald Trump, with whom he has a friendly relationship with and his presumptive Democratic rival, former Vice-President Joe Biden.

The 43-year-old rapper launched his campaign in an Independence Day tweet, on Saturday, using the hashtag “2020 vision,” indicating he plans to toss his hat in the ring for this fall’s election.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” West wrote in a Twitter post, adding an American flag emoji and the hashtag “#2020VISION,” he tweeted.

Elon Musk, the chief executive of electric-car maker, Tesla and SpaceX backed Mr. West’s announcement, tweeting, “You have my full support!”

Mr. West has made similar announcements before, as per an NBC report. He had announced at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards that he would run in 2020. Last year again he said he would run in 2024, possibly under the name, “Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West.”

Mr. West is a supporter of Mr. Trump and has, before, referred to him as “his brother.” He said in April that he was going to vote for him this fall.

“I am not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over. Because guess what: I am still here!” he said.

He has also been known to wear the signature Trump campaign cap, with ‘Make America Great Again’ written across its front.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” he tweeted in 2018.

My Husband Looked Like A Farmer when we met –Regina Daniels-Nwoko

Nigerian actress, Regina Daniels opened up on a wide range of issues about her personal life and the continued scrutiny relating to her marriage to billionaire Ned Nwoko.

When news of their romance started circulating, many alleged that Regina got married to Ned because of his wealth, while others criticised Nwoko for marrying someone young enough to be his daughter.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Daniels-Nwoko, spoke about her pregnancy experience, saying she didn’t face any challenges. “Before I got pregnant, people said pregnancy was hard; and the journey wasn’t easy. As a matter of fact, I heard so much. But I am still very young and it was more like living my normal life. I didn’t even have morning sickness and I didn’t face any challenges of any kind. It was pretty normal for me,” she said.

Recalling her first impression when she met her husband, the actress said, “Being married to him (Ned Nwoko), I feel free. I can do whatever I want, dress however I like and live my life. He is always pushing me to be a better person. He brings me out there because he wants me to be more exposed. He wants me to see the world in a different way. As a matter of fact, there are so many things I just can’t start to explain.

“The first impression I had when I met him, which I will keep saying is that he looked like a farmer. We actually went on a tour to his house in the village (Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State) and he was so polite and educative. He wants one to know about nature and the world in general. He wants one to experience different things, so he was always trying to educate us on that particular visit.”

9 Nigerians Dropped From The Special US-Lagos Flight Over COVID-19 Status Papers

Special US-Lagos flight drops 9 Nigerians over COVID-19 status papers

Nine Nigerians have been  dropped from the special US-Lagos flight arranged to evacuate Nigerians citizens from the United States for failing to present COVID-19 test results.

Among them is a family of five, according to Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, the Consul General of Nigeria in New York, who oversaw the second evacuation. The first evacuation was done on 10 May.

Okoyen when interviewed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the airport that the family was not allowed to check in for failing to present coronavirus test result.

The negative COVID-19 test result is one of the requirements for evacuation under the Revised Quarantine Protocol of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

Special US-Lagos flight drops 9 Nigerians over COVID-19 status papers

Okoyen said although the remaining four presented their results, they had to be dropped because they were on a family ticket with one of the defaulters.

He said one of the unidentified defaulters did not take the test at all in spite of being informed well ahead of time.

Meanwhile, 322 evacuees made the fully booked Ethiopian Airlines’ flight, which departed the Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey, on Friday night.

They are expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Saturday afternoon.

The first set of 160 stranded Nigerians were brought home from the U.S. on May 10.

No fewer than 700 stranded citizens registered with the Nigerian missions in the U.S. for evacuation, according to Okoyen, meaning more flights are coming.

In fact, The Consul General said the next one, also fully booked, had been slated for July 17 with the possibility of another, afterwards.

Okoyen told NAN that the nine persons that missed Friday’s flight would be placed on the waiting list for subsequent ones.

He appealed to intending evacuees to abide by the rules to avoid a repeat of Friday’s incident.

“We had to turn them back because this is a regulation, and I am using this opportunity to advise those in subsequent flights to obey the rules,” he said.

The consul general commended the evacuees for their orderly conduct, while also thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity.

Some of the evacuees, who were visibly excited to return home, also thanked the Federal Government for arranging the flight.
